In July 2014, the RYA proposed to the Honbu Dojo that there be an International Senshusei Alumni Event in November 2015. The idea was that this would be a week-long event for senshusei, their students and invited yudan ranked Yoshinkan Aikidoka to be held in Japan leading up to the annual All Japan International Yoshinkan Aikido Demonstration on the following Saturday.

In late February 2015 the date of the All Japan International Yoshinkan Aikido Demonstration was shared by the Honbu Dojo. The date of the demonstration has been set to Saturday, October 17th, 2015.

The Senshusei Alumni Reunion schedule has accordingly been set to start on Sunday, October 11th with a welcome dinner and will include training, sightseeing and seminar opportunities. It will culminate with the 60th All Japan Yoshinkan Aikido Demonstration on October 17th and conclude with the post-embu kenshu held at Yoshinkan Hombu on Sunday, October 18th.

Changes to the Senshusei Alumni Event!

We have found it necessary to make some significant changes to the event for the following reasons:

1. We did not get the number of participants we were expecting (or needing) registered by the end of August
2. The Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo was unable to commit to providing instructors for the first day of the Gasshuku in Katsuura

Accordingly, we have changed the structure of the event to make group visits to the Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo, the Aikido Renshinkai Dojo, the Aikido Shinwakan Dojo and to the Aikido Ryu Dojo instead of asking that the instructors come to us at the Budo Kenshujo Center in Katsuura. We will be training in regular classes with students from those dojos.

Please register for the opening dinner and the training in advance so that we can inform the venue and instructors in advance.

Note that we have changed the payment system because the pricing has decreased and we no longer have to pay for venues in advance. We now ask that you pay for yourselves during the event following the budget provided below. For those of you who have indicated that you would like to attend, but that the price was a little out of reach, we hope that you will be able to reconsider. For those of you who have already transferred your event fees, we will make sure that it is refunded to you when you arrive in Tokyo.

Please remember to forward any interesting group, individual or instructor photos/videos from your senshusei course to us at rya@roppongi-yoshinkan.com so that we can create a historic digital summary of the senshusei courses. Please ask your fellow ex-senshusei if they have any photos, too!
